An Exemplary Program that Leverages Technology to Increase Capacity and Achieve Quality Outcomes for Nursing Students:

An Interview with Frank Wetta of Ocean County College

An unfortunate conundrum facing America today is that our nation's healthcare system is critically lacking trained nurses at a time when many of our institutions simply do not have the capacity to enroll all of the young men and women desiring to enter their programs. One of the primary reasons for this disconnect is that our colleges and universities do not have the physical space or the resources to build new facilities. Ocean County College, a 2-year New Jersey institution, has come up with a solution that is providing successful results, a hybrid RN program that has allowed the college to enroll and train more nurses without constructing additional buildings. And the best part is that these online students appear to be learning and retaining as much or more than their traditional classroom counterparts.
As part of an ongoing series to showcase innovative programs and the impact of technology on learning, IMS Global Learning Consortium recently interviewed Frank Wetta, vice president of academic affairs at Ocean County College, to learn more about the success of this nationally recognized program.
