Cartridge Testing Service

This test system is made available free-of-charge so that you can perform your own testing of cartridges for compliance with the Common Cartridge v1.0 specification.

See a Demo of the Test System (flash)

Cartridges are subjected to the same set of rigorous tests as those applied in the development of the common cartridge test data set and can either be submitted individually, or in multiples, wrapped up in a zip file. See scope of testing for further details of what is tested. The test system generates a comprehensive report of any non-compliance issues detected (see sample test reports).
The Test System is available for use on Windows, Linux and Mac platforms. Please refer to the manual for guidance on installation and use of the tool. * Requires Community Login*

Common Cartridge Minimizer

The Common Cartridge Minimizer is a tool, developed at the University in Koblenz/Germany, to ease testing of Common Cartridges for conformance. It strips off all content from cartridges and retains just the structure of the cartridge for testing. More precisely, it creates copies of cartridges where all non-xml files are replaced by empty files with the same name. This
offers two advantages:

The size of the cartridges is considerably reduced, resulting in more rapid uploads to the conformance testing system
Content to be protected does not have to leave the owner's system for conformance testing
Since the IMS Common Cartridge Specification does not specify internals of content files, this does not affect the results of the conformance tests

How to get the Common Cartridge Minimizer?

You can download the software her. Use of the software requires an actual Java Runtime Environment. The Common Cartridge Minimizer comes with absolutely no warranty and you use it at your own risk!

How to use the Common Cartridge Minimizer and get Common Cartridges tested?

The Common Cartridge Minimizer is used as follows:
  1. After launching the program, specify under the Cartridge Selection tab the directory to contain the minimized cartridges. Note that existing files in this directory may be overwritten!
  2. Specify a selection of zipped cartridges to be minimized.
  3. Check under the File Mappings tab the names of the files that are to be generated. If necessary, you may alter proposed names with a right-click on the name concerned. Use this to ensure that no valuable content gets overwritten!
  4. Press OK - the selected directory will be populated and the Minimizer will terminate without further notice.
  5. The directory you specified should contain the following files:
    • A zip file with all your minimized cartridges. If you would like to have all tested all minimized cartridges, send only this file to IMS Global Learning as described here.
    • A directory with a zip file for each minimized cartridge. Select the files for the cartridges you want to have tested and send them to IMS Global Learning as described here.
    • An html page with the mapping of the names and locations of the files on your system to the names of the minimized cartridges. Retain this page to assign the conformance testing reports you will get to the correct original cartridges.
