Enabling Integrated Digital Curriculum and Data for Personalized Learning

IMS Global Interoperability Standards are the Foundation for the Next Generation Digital Learning Infrastructure

K-12 Playbook

IMS Global has proven a set of interoperability standards that enable rapid integration of a wide variety of digital content and learning applications into a seamless, single sign-on environment. The benefits are wide reaching, diverse and include:

  • Automatically populating rosters in teaching and learning tools
  • One-click, seamless connections for teachers and students from the most relevant and convenient access point (LMS, portal, LOR)
  • Accessing discrete learning objects and assessment items in the right place at the right time
  • Providing a means for collecting assignment scores and grades across a wide array of digital resources in a single place of record
  • Viewing product usage to better understand the return on learning of technology investments
  • Presenting achievements that are verifiable and portable to help learners differentiate their career-readiness in an increasingly competitive world

Leadership & Collaboration

Over 50 IMS Global member school districts (and growing), including 40% of the largest 25 school districts and 23% of the top 100 districts in the US, are leading the efforts of the IMS Global member collaborative to enable a plug-and-play ecosystem to support personalized learning for over 4.6 million K-12 students. IMS interoperability standards help districts increase quality teaching time and digital classroom innovation while reducing cost.

Collaboration among IMS Global members is the catalyst to accelerating adoption of a plug-and-play digital learning ecosystem. The K-12 Institutional Leadership Board, comprised of IMS Contributing Member district and state officials, leads the adoption of IMS standards for the benefit of all school districts and states. The K-12 Innovation Leadership Networks, comprised of IMS Contributing and Affiliate members, develop resources, document best practices, and create case studies showing the impact of standards.

As reliance on technology as a viable instructional tool increase, teachers must ensure that instructional time isn’t lost. Software tools and platforms that are IMS Global certified connect seamlessly while requiring no additional technical support. The 15,000 students who have been served by Georgia Virtual Schools have experienced the ease of use that a plug and play ecosystem provides.

IMS Global RFP templates help us develop robust RFPs which aide us in the vendor selection to ensure we get the best value for our district during tight financial times. The detail of the resources and the help that is available with questions are useful tools in our procurement process. The online certification database has proven itself useful to verify vendor claims.

Digital Learning rEvolution Program

IMS Global empowers school districts of all sizes and needs to adopt its 4-tiered program for the standards-based ecosystem. The K-12 Revolution Program enables both a straightforward evolution to digital products and provides the foundation for significant improvements in teaching and learning.

If you are new to IMS, your first step is to make the commitment to a plug-and-play digital ecosystem and we’re here to help! Connect with an IMS K-12 Institutional Program Manager to discuss your district’s need. You don’t need to be an IMS member to be a part of the IMS revolution.

Once the foundation is in place and it is easy to connect together digital products, districts can consider more advanced ecosystem capabilities that enable student-centered learning and other more revolutionary approaches. Learn more about the full program or use the links below to explore each tier.
