1EdTech Consortium Announces First Wave of LTI Advantage Commitments

Leading EdTech Suppliers Respond to Demand for Better Instructional Experiences

LAKE MARY, Florida, 26 March 2018 — 1EdTech Consortium (1EdTech/1EdTech), the world-leading non-profit collaborative advancing edtech interoperability, innovation, and learning impact announced today that 10 educational technology product suppliers have committed to implementing and achieving 1EdTech certification for LTI Advantage by fall 2018.

LTI Advantage is the core of an innovative ecosystem of learning platforms and tools that will enable flexible next-generation digital learning environments making it the preferred edtech integration technology. Implementing LTI Advantage ensures better privacy and security around the flow of user and assessment data. Institutional leaders and educators looking to facilitate deeper and more reliable integrations of their learning tools and content, streamline repetitive course administrative tasks and present students and faculty with a clearer picture of learning progress will benefit from the rapid adoption of LTI Advantage.

“It is extremely encouraging to see the edtech community rally around LTI Advantage certification as the foundation for the plug-and-play digital learning ecosystem," said Mark Leuba, vice president of product management, 1EdTech Consortium. “1EdTech recognizes the leadership of AEFIS, Blackboard, Cengage, D2L, eLumen, Gradescope, Instructure, Kaltura, MoodleRooms, and VitalSource for committing early to LTI Advantage certification and continuing to innovate with their products as we work together to accelerate academic transformation.”

Additionally, Blackboard, D2L, and Instructure have identified strategic edtech tool partners that they are committed to coaching and guiding through the implementation and certification process for LTI Advantage, helping to ensure it will achieve a critical mass of certified products in record time. These early adopters will demonstrate how their tools are leveraging LTI Advantage to provide a better user experience for learners and educators at the LTI Advantage Showcase during the 1EdTech Quarterly Meeting, 12-15 November 2018.

Strong support and demand for LTI Advantage certification by institutional leaders—led by 1EdTech’s 115 higher education member institutions—is driving upward momentum to ensure institutions and educators have the greatest flexibility and choice across all learning environments.

“LTI Advantage certification will be increasingly important for the higher education community because it will allow institutions more flexibility and consistency to meet changing student demands,” said Thomas Cavanagh, Ph.D., vice provost for digital learning, University of Central Florida. “I believe that it will also encourage wider adoption of innovative solutions because LTI Advantage defines the integration parameters that everyone will require.”

Two upgraded LTI Advantage extensions—Assignment and Grade Services and Names and Role Provisioning Services—have been released for 1EdTech member adoption. 1EdTech workgroup efforts are focused on new implementation support resources and meeting early 2Q 2018 delivery goals for the Deep Linking extension and LTI 1.3, the core specification required for LTI Advantage certification that aligns with an enhanced 1EdTech-wide standard security framework.

LTI Advantage will be featured in several sessions and a two-day hackathon at the 1EdTech Learning Impact Leadership Institute, 21-24 May 2018, in Baltimore, Maryland. LTI Advantage Hackathon participants will be the first to get access to new development utilities designed specifically to help institutions and suppliers get ready for LTI Advantage adoption.
