UPDATE AND KEY EVENTS

PLANS NEXT 6-12 MONTHS

Competencies and Academic Standards Exchange (CASE)

JH

Eight products have certified for CASE 1.0. Currently completing charter version 1.1 of CASE to be submitted to TAB for consideration

CASE 1.1 will commence as soon as TAB vote is completed. Most development work is to provide a stable version of the standard now that some implementers have experience working with the standard

Comprehensive Learner Record

JB

Comprehensive Learner Record (CLR) 1.0 Candidate Final is being updated to support learning pathways which are plans towards a goal. Early adopter suppliers are ready to implement once this update is complete. Initially addressing HED use cases, increasing interest in K12

Certification suite will be updated to include pathways and first products will be certified for CLR 1.0.  Following early adopter phase, CLR 1.0 (Final) will be prepared for TAB vote.

Group’s focus will be on market adoption and certification of more CLR products that issue and consume CLRs. CLR 1.0 will remain stable during this period

Open Badges

JB

14 products are now certified for OBv2. Project group is developing a common approach (Badge Connect API) for moving badges from one OBv2 system to another. Early adopters will implement Badge Connect API late 2018 and work on the certification suite will begin

Badge Connect API will go to TAB for vote and subsequently published as final version. Focus will be on market adoption and certification of products that implement Badge Connect.

Work will begin on a new and optional method for verifying Open Badges using Blockchain

LEARNING DATA & ANALYTICS
Clickstream learning data from all digital resources—available in real-time and viewable using any dashboard—can help inform student success strategies, institutional academic decisions, instructional design, and provides a common data format for research on student learning.

UPDATE AND KEY EVENTS

PLANS NEXT 6-12 MONTHS

OneRoster

CS

Twenty-four products are certified in 1.1

Completion of the base specification for OneRoster 1.2 which adds score scales, user-specific resources and alignment with academic standards via CASE

Complete the certification suite for OneRoster 1.2 and promote adoption of the updated standard

Caliper Analytics

MM

Release of the Caliper v1.1 specification has brought new certified products, along with a new, agile process for adding profiles between releases of new versions.

Profiles developed and approved include Search and Tool Launch.  Additional profiles being discussed include: QTI Assessment, Student Feedback and Progress/Milestones

New profiles representing needs in the marketplace will continue to be developed

An updated release Caliper v1.2 is targeted for May 2019 including the new profiles

Caliper is a highly extensible core standard designed to support optional metric profiles for specific learner analytics cases.  We encourage members to propose profiles to meet their analytics needs

App Vetting and Privacy

LM

IMS has instituted App Vetting in the product directory for members to login and see the vetted apps.  The project group is gathering use cases and investigating ways to transfer privacy and security information via LTI to admins, teachers, students

Expand App Vetting in IMS and draft requirements for sharing privacy and security data via LTI to include as an LTI Extension

Results Management and Reporting

JH

A task force has formed to align management and reporting of all forms of results across the IMS digital ecosystem. Initially the task force will identify detailed user stories and scope/goals for a common vocabulary for results

Development of a common glossary and model for results.  Suggested changes and updates to current specifications and if needed, a proposal of new IMS specification(s) to address gaps

INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT
Digital assessment is made easier if there is a common format for exchanging test questions, structures, and scores, and presenting test content to students in a way that meets their personal needs and preferences while providing institutions with the ability to analyze results.

UPDATE AND KEY EVENTS

PLANS NEXT 6-12 MONTHS

Accessible Portable Item (APIP)

MM

No active work currently on the APIP spec

No work currently planned.

Question and Test Interoperability (QTI)

MM

QTI v2.2 Conformance Certification testing was made available while QTI v3 specification continues in earnest.  Project group members are producing tools to help the market move to QT v3, members of the project group are early adopters of QTI v3

Prepare the QTI v3 Conformance Certification testing and complete the QTI v3 Candidate FInal specification documents. Submit the QTI v3 spec to the TAB for final vote. Produce getting-started guide to improve the adoption resources available to the public

Proctoring Service (LTI)

MM

Proctoring Services is an extension of LTI v1.3.

The specification documents are being prepared for Public Candidate Final and the task force members are actively adopting the standard

Publish the draft spec as Public Candidate Fina and complete Certification testing suite.  Build the Proctoring Service into the IMS LTI Reference Implementation tool. Submit to the TAB for final vote

Computer Adaptive Testing

MM

There were demonstrations of multiple early implementations at LILI 2018. Additional demonstrations and promotion at eATP conference are planned

Complete the Candidate Final spec. Prepare the CAT Conformance Certification test process.

Submit the specification  to the TAB for final vote

Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium

MM

This activity is based on demand from states and vendors looking to have QTI items exported from the SBAC authoring system. The task force is documenting mappings between QTI v3 and the SBAC proprietary format

Complete the mapping documentation. Create a profile for validation and conformance certification

Publish the mapping documentation to the public

LEARNING PLATFORMS, APPS & TOOLS
Scalable, seamless, and secure integration of all digital content, learning tools, and assessment products into an institution’s digital learning environment is the most effective way to support next generation teaching and learning.

Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) LTI Advantage

MM

Five new or updated specifications comprise the LTI Advantage body of work -

  • LTI 1.3 Core
  • IMS Security Framework
  • Deep Linking
  • Assignment and Grades
  • Names and Role Provisioning

All currently published as Candidate Final.

A fully functioning Reference Implementation helps members adopt and test their products much faster.   Early adoption by members has been strong and continues to expand

The specification documents to Public Final as soon as minimum certification requirements are met.

Work with the Product Steering Committee to and institutional boards to prioritize the next new services/extensions to continue to expand the capabilities and benefits of LTI

LTI 1.3 is a secure, highly extensible architecture which supports optional feature-based extensions better than earlier versions. We encourage member recommendations for extensions

LTI Resource Search

JH

Version 1.0 publicly released. A webinar was hosted  31 October “Only Treats, No Tricks with the New LTI Resource Search”

Focus will be on increasing implementation, helping institutions understand the value (new resources have been published including RFP language) and discussions about additional  search needs within the IMS ecosystem

LTI Insights

JB

LTI Insights is an analytics  resource being made available for  members use to understand and manage their LTI based tool ecosystem, including audits of personal data exchange. Based on Caliper profiles Tool Launch and Tool Use,   the components available include a learning record store and dashboard queries

The first phase of  includes a trial group of schools to install sample systems in their organizations and contribute to a set of standard dashboard queries to be shared among the members.  Platforms need to implement LTI Tool Launch and tool suppliers will need to implement LTI Tool Use

ADAPTIVE DIGITAL CURRICULUM
Packaging learning content from different sources and streamlining the management of digital resources saves valuable instruction time and provides greater choice and flexibility that leads to better learning experiences.
