Interoperability Challenge for Learning Impact 2010
This year's Learning Impact conference is hosted in cooperation with the California State University (CSU) System. CSU has expressed a desire to witness interoperability among new generation digital content, learning platforms and learning applications using the IMS Digital Learning Services Standards (Common Cartridge, Learning Tools Interoperability and Learning Information Services). These demonstrations will serve to inform CSU, as well as other members of the IMS Learning Technology Advisory Council (LTAC), as to the readiness of suppliers to deliver interoperable solutions to address the System’s needs.
CSU is interested in specific interoperability enabling the following:
- Seamless integration among learning and course management platforms and the following categories of applications and systems:
- Classroom capture
- Online lecture
- Student/faculty online collaboration
- Course authoring
- Student assessment
- Learning simulation
- Content management
- Library services
- Online purchasing
- Student advising services
- ePortfolio
- Ability to archive interoperable educational content to a standard and import into a learning management platform or archival, course authoring or content management system
- Creation of interoperable hybrid courses: Use of publisher content and open content in the same course and packaged in an interoperable format
To identify specific products included in many of the learning technology classes of interest to CSU and the LTAC, please visit the IMS GLC Learning and Education Technology Product Directory.
In preparation for interoperability demonstrations at the upcoming IMS Learning Impact Conference, May 17-20, 2010 in Long Beach, CA, IMS is offering to provide technical support to suppliers who are Contributing, Affiliate or Alliance Members of IMS GLC who wish to take part in the interoperability demonstrations defined above. This will include pre-demonstration preparation and testing guidance and consultation. Additionally, IMS staff will work with suppliers to setup the necessary test-bed in which interoperability demonstrations will be conducted. However, to participate, you must contact us by Friday, March 26, 2010 expressing your interest in participation and the specific interoperability demonstration(s) you would like to support. Email InteroperabilityChallenge2010@imsglobal.org including your name, organization, the specific interoperability demonstration you would like to support and your contact details.
The interoperability demonstrations will occur during the LTAC: Setting the Course for Market Adoption of Digital Learning Standards workshop on Thursday, May 20, 2010 and will be witnessed by the following LTAC members:
- Gerry Hanley, Senior Director, Academic Technology Services, California State University
- Charles F. Leonhardt, Principal Technologist, Georgetown University
- Jennifer Whiting, Senior Manager, Curriculum Research and Discovery Florida Virtual School
- John St.Clair, Director of Distance and Blended Learning, University of Mary Washington
