The Blockchain in Education for Digital Credentials and Badges Presented by Chris Jagers, Co-Founder and CEO, Learning Machine The blockchain provides a new technical infrastructure of trust that is used to store an unalterable history of transactions. Issuing official records to students is an example of a transaction that can be cryptographically signed, permanently recorded on the blockchain, and independently verified by anyone granted access to a record. Examples of these learner-controlled records could include documents such as diplomas, transcripts and certificates as well as data-rich digital credentials including extended transcripts and badges. The presentation will illustrate how this technology works, how it protects student privacy, and how it can be implemented today.
|
3:45 pm - 4:30 pm |
Next Steps to Accelerate the Evolution of Digital Credentials In October 2016, Mozilla, Collective Shift and 1EdTech signalled their mutual commitment to digital credentials and Open Badges with the announcement that the management of the Open Badges specification would transition to 1EdTech management, where badge ecosystem stakeholders and market leaders can contribute to its evolution. Hear from the principal decision makers about this transition and their expectations for the future of Open Badges.
