Two Learning Industry Leaders Join to Help Accelerate Progress of Global Adoption of Open Industry Standards for Learning Technology

Lake Mary, FL, USA, 8 April 2008. Today the 1EdTech Consortium (1EdTech GLC) announced two new staff appointments to provide additional support to members of the 1EdTech GLC in developing and implementing learning technology standards and adoption practices.

Dr. Charles R. Severance joins 1EdTech GLC as Developer Network Coordinator. Charles is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Information at the University of Michigan focused on the teaching of the practical application of web technologies. Previously he was the Executive Director of the Sakai Foundation and the Chief Architect of the Sakai Project, a leading open source collaborative learning system. Charles is the Author of the book High Performance Computing, Second Edition, published by O'Reilly and Associates. He has also been a leader in standards development, including serving as the vice-chair for the IEEE Posix P1003 standards effort and the editor of the Standards Column in IEEE Computer Magazine from 1995-1999.

Duncan Lennox joins 1EdTech GLC as Enterprise Learning Specialist. Duncan is a recognized industry expert on e-learning strategy and technology, a frequent conference speaker and has appeared in print and on television. He co-founded leading LCMS vendor WBT Systems in 1995 and developed the first versions of the TopClass Learning Content Management System, continuing as Chief Technology Officer until 2006. He has been involved in some of the largest and most successful e-Learning implementations in the world including Dow Chemical and The World Bank.

Charles and Duncan will initially be providing member and community support for the emerging Learning Tools Interoperability and Learning Information Services (formerly known as Enterprise) standards being developed by 1EdTech GLC members. These two standards, together with 1EdTech Common Cartridge, provide a foundation for a new generation of web and enterprise enabled learning technology.
